Kerala is extolled as the ‘god’s own country’ internationally. The large number of Hindu temples, places of worship of other religions, and an outstanding tradition of communal harmony make this title literally meaningful. Kerala has an array of festivals with unusually decorated elephants all around, heavenly characters of KATHAKALI the traditional form of dance-drama, classical music, MOHINIYATTAM, the classical dance and an extensive list of traditional art forms. Designed and developed by the erstwhile king of Cochin, Sakthan Thampuran, Thrissur is the cultural capital of the state of Kerala. It is basically a temple town, spread around the ancient temple of Lord Shiva called VADAKKUNNATHA. The world famous Thrissur Pooram is a summer festival (in the month of April) staged in the heart of the city and is the biggest of its type in India. The famous hindu pilgrim centre GURUVAYOOR Temple is situated about 25 kilometres from the town. BIBLE TOWER, the highest church-tower in Asia is another attraction of the town. KERALA KALAMANDALAM, a deemed University for traditional art forms and dance, is another destination of pride for Thrissur. ATHIRAPPALLY waterfalls also come within the boundaries of Thrissur district. Mathikkunnu, where Sunethri Ayurvedashram is located, is a green village with pure air and water. THRIKKUR Shiva temple, 2 kilometres away, is an ancient place of worship, which dates back to the Jain period built in the classical ancient architectural style of Kerala. The sanctum sanctorum in this temple is a natural cave. The birth place of the Late SWAMI RANGANATHANANDA, former head of Sri Ramakrishna Math is 2.5 kilometres away from our campus.
